Description
Dosirak pronounced Doshirak is a traditional Korean packed lunch box without sections and layers. While in Japan, dosirak is referred to as a bento box the Korean version is made of plated tin and was used to serve school lunches and dinners consisting of rice, side dishes, fried rice, gimbap, and yubu chobap. Dosirak was introduced to Korea during the Japanese rule of Korea from 1910 to 1945. During this time period, Korean cuisine acquired Japanese food staples such as bento or sushi wrapped in seaweed sheets, which popularised dosirak in Korea as gimbap.
