About Katachiware
Is Katachiware an Australian-owned business?
Yes. Katachiware has been Australian owned and operated since 2007. We supply Japanese-inspired tableware, bento boxes, teaware and dining accessories for homes and hospitality businesses. Read more about Katachiware.
Are all Katachiware products made in Japan?
No. Our range includes products from Japan and other countries. Japanese-inspired describes the style rather than guaranteeing the country of manufacture. Check the individual product description and the “Made In” information where provided, or ask us before ordering.
Does Katachiware have a showroom or offer Click & Collect?
Katachiware operates exclusively online. We do not have a public showroom or offer Click & Collect. Please place your order through our website for delivery to your nominated address.
How can I contact Katachiware about a product or order?
Use our contact form or email [email protected]. Include the product name or link for product enquiries, and your order number for help with an existing purchase.
Where can I find new tableware and recently added products?
Visit New Arrivals to browse recent additions. We add new products almost daily, including tableware, bento boxes, matcha accessories and cookware. Availability can change as new ranges arrive and existing items sell out.

Which payment methods can I use?
We offer online payment options including credit card, PayPal and Afterpay. The methods available for your order are displayed at checkout, where you can choose your preferred option before completing payment.
Are your prices in Australian dollars and do they include GST?

Can I add more items after placing an order?
A second order placed within two hours, using the same delivery address, may be combined with your original shipment where possible. Contact us promptly; combining orders is not guaranteed.
Can I buy a Katachiware digital gift card?

How do I redeem a gift card, and when does it expire?
Enter the gift-card code at checkout on katachiware.com.au. Cards are valid for five years from issue, with the expiry shown on the card. You can use any remaining balance on later orders before expiry.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you deliver across Australia and to New Zealand?
Yes. We deliver Australia-wide and internationally, including New Zealand. International rates are calculated at checkout; import charges may apply.
When does my order qualify for free delivery?
Eligible Australian retail orders of $150 or more, including GST, qualify for free courier delivery to street addresses. Trade orders and specified products are excluded. See delivery conditions.
How much does delivery cost?
Enter your address at checkout to see available services and delivery charges before paying.
How long do dispatch and delivery take?
Orders generally dispatch within one to two business days after payment is received. Standard delivery is estimated at four to eight working days; remote areas and busy periods can take longer.
Do you offer express delivery?
Express delivery is available where offered at checkout, with an estimated two to four working days. Timing varies by destination.
Can you deliver to PO Boxes or Parcel Lockers?
Choose a suitable Australia Post service for PO Boxes, Parcel Lockers or Post Collect. Free courier delivery excludes these addresses.
How do I track my order or report a missing delivery?
Use the tracking details supplied with your order. For delays or a parcel marked delivered that you cannot locate, contact the carrier promptly and let us know.
See our Shipping & Returns page for current services, estimates and conditions.
Returns & Order Support
Can I return an item if I change my mind?
Yes. We accept approved change-of-mind returns within 28 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in their original packaging and suitable for resale.
How do I arrange a return or exchange?
Contact us with your order number and request before returning anything. We will provide a return authority and postal address. See our returns policy.
Who pays return postage, and are delivery charges refunded?
For change-of-mind returns, you pay return postage and original delivery charges are not refunded. Approved item refunds go to the original payment method after inspection. Reasonable return costs for confirmed faulty goods are reimbursed.
What should I do if my order arrives damaged?
Contact us promptly, ideally within 24 hours, with your order number and clear photos of the item, packaging and delivery label. Keep the contents and packaging while we help arrange assessment.
What if an item is faulty or does not match its description?
Contact us with your order number and photos so we can assess the issue and arrange an appropriate remedy. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply.
The 28-day change-of-mind conditions and the request to report damage promptly do not limit your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Hospitality & Wholesale
Do you supply restaurants, cafés and catering businesses?
Yes. We supply tableware, servingware, cookware and food-presentation products to restaurants, cafés, caterers and other hospitality businesses. Our range can be browsed online, with enquiries welcomed for new venues and replacement tableware.
Is discounted pricing available for hospitality or bulk orders?
Discounted pricing may be available, depending on the products, quantities and total order value. Submit your requirements through our Hospitality & Wholesale enquiry form so we can assess your order.
What information should I include when requesting a trade quote?
Include your business details, product names or links, quantities and delivery postcode. If you are working towards an opening or event date, mention it so we can check availability against your requirements.
Do you have a separate wholesale catalogue or price list?
We do not maintain a separate wholesale price list. Our website shows the current range. Retailers interested in reselling our products can send their selection and quantities for an individual quote.
Bento Boxes
Should I choose a traditional resin bento box or a wooden bento box?
Traditional resin bento boxes offer lacquer-inspired finishes and divided meal presentation. Wooden bento boxes feature natural timber grain and need gentle hand washing. Compare each product’s size, compartments and care requirements before choosing.
How do I choose the right bento box size and number of compartments?
Consider the portion size and foods you plan to serve. Check the external dimensions, available capacity and compartment layout on the product page. Several smaller compartments suit assorted side dishes; larger sections leave more room for rice or a main dish.
Can I put a bento box in the microwave?
Do not microwave traditional ABS, melamine or wooden bento boxes. Heat food separately before serving. If a particular modern bento product has microwave-suitable inserts, use only the components expressly identified as suitable in that product’s instructions.
Are bento boxes leakproof?
A fitted lid does not automatically mean a bento box is leakproof. Only use a box to transport liquids if its product details explicitly confirm that suitability. Choose a separate sealed container for sauces or dressings when leak protection is not specified.
What is a Jubako, and when would I use one?
Jubako boxes have stacking tiers for presenting different foods separately. They suit shared meals, entertaining and celebrations. Compare the number of tiers and overall dimensions to choose a size for individual portions or a larger spread.
Matcha Kits & Accessories
What is included in a matcha kit or matcha tea set?
Contents vary. Many sets include a bowl, bamboo whisk, scoop and whisk holder, while smaller starter sets may contain utensils only. Check the included-items list for your chosen matcha tea set before ordering.
Can I choose the pieces in my own matcha kit?
Yes. The Erabu Matcha Kit – Create Your Own Set lets you choose from the available utensil and whisk-holder sets, canisters and strainers. Select your preferred options on the product page and review the total before adding it to your cart.
Is matcha powder included with a matcha tea set?
Do not assume that matcha powder is included. Our sets focus on preparation tools and teaware. The individual product page lists the contents; if matcha powder is not listed, you will need to purchase it separately.
How do I prepare matcha with a bamboo whisk?
Sift your matcha into a suitable bowl, add a little water at around 70–80°C, and whisk lightly in a zigzag motion until evenly mixed and foamy. Adjust with more water to taste, or add the prepared matcha to milk for a latte.
What does a matcha whisk holder do?
A whisk holder supports the bamboo whisk, also called a chasen, between uses and helps maintain its shape. After gently rinsing your whisk, place it on a suitable holder in a ventilated spot and let it dry completely.
How should I clean and store a bamboo matcha whisk?
Rinse gently with water after use, taking care with the delicate prongs. Avoid scrubbing, prolonged soaking and dishwashers. Allow the whisk to dry fully before storage, and keep bamboo accessories in a dry, ventilated place.
Tableware, Teaware & Cookware
What should I look for when choosing a ramen bowl?
Allow room for noodles, broth and toppings rather than choosing by diameter alone. Compare capacity, depth and material in our ramen bowl range, then check care instructions for your preferred bowl.
What is a temaki sushi holder used for?
A temaki holder supports cone-shaped hand rolls upright for serving. Our 5 Hole Temaki Sushi Roll Holder presents five rolls separately, making it a useful option for sushi meals and shared table settings.
What should I check when buying reusable chopsticks?
Compare the material, length, grip and cleaning instructions. Also check whether the listing is for one pair or a multipack. Our chopstick range includes different materials and pack sizes for home and hospitality use.
What comes in a sake set, and can it serve warm or chilled sake?
A sake set commonly includes a serving bottle, called a tokkuri, and cups. Cup numbers and accessories vary. Many ceramic sets suit warm or chilled sake, but check the individual sake set instructions before heating.
Can I heat a cast iron teapot on the stove?
Our enamel-lined cast iron teapots are for brewing tea with water heated separately. Do not place them on a stove or direct flame. A water-boiling kettle is a different product; follow the instructions for your particular item. Read our cast iron teapot care guide.
How do I check whether a hot pot suits my cooktop?
Check the specific product’s listed heat sources before buying. Compatibility varies between clay, cast iron and stainless steel pots; do not assume every hot pot suits induction. Browse our donabe and hot pots or ask us about your cooktop.
Materials & Product Care
Is all Katachiware tableware dishwasher-safe?
No. Suitability depends on the material, finish and individual product. Check the product’s care instructions before using a dishwasher. Wooden pieces and bamboo utensils generally need hand washing, while delicate finishes may require gentler care than other tableware.
How do I clean melamine tableware?
Wash with warm water, mild detergent and a soft sponge. Avoid abrasive pads and cleaners. Where dishwasher use is permitted, follow the product’s temperature limits; high-temperature commercial cycles may be unsuitable. Melamine must not be used in a microwave.
How do I care for wooden bento boxes and wooden chopsticks?
Wash gently by hand with warm water and mild detergent, following the particular finish’s instructions. Avoid soaking, dishwashers and microwaves. Dry thoroughly before storing, and keep wooden pieces away from prolonged moisture and strong heat. See our product care guide.
Why might a wooden or glazed item look slightly different from the photo?
Natural timber grain and colour vary between pieces, and some ceramic glazes produce individual patterns or tonal differences. Lighting and screen settings can also affect appearance. If a particular finish matters to your selection, ask us about the item before ordering.
