Large Miso Soup Bowl with Lid (Red & Black)

The two-piece Miso Soup Bowl & Lid features a traditional glossy lacquered finish in black and red. The matching lid maintains the temperature of the contents of your dinner and doubles as a sauce dish. Additionally, the bowl is suitable for serving rice and other side dishes. Additionally, it is ideal for side dishes, salads, and appetisers, as well as anything else that comes in a little portion.

Although the Miso Soup Bowl with Lid is dishwasher safe, it will last longer if carefully hand-washed with a soapy, damp cloth. This product is not suitable for use in microwaves or conventional ovens.

Why is a Miso Soup Bowl lidded?

Over 400 years ago in Japan, miso soup bowls were served with a lid since the kitchens that prepared the meal were located miles away from the dining area. The lid was added to keep the soup warm and to keep out dust. Many years later, as kitchens were reorganised to be closer to eating areas, miso was still served in bowls with lids, but on rare occasions. Thus, miso was typically served without a lid at home or at work, but with visitors or at a high-profile restaurant, miso was generally served in a soup with a lid.
