Description
The Shou Masu Box 1.8 L was traditionally used in Japan during the feudal period as a cooking utensil for measuring rice, grain, sake and oils. Masu existed in sizes ranging from one to (一斗枡 ittomasu, c. 18 L) to one gō (一合枡 ichigōmasu, c. 0.18 L). The term “Masu” translates to “growth” in Japanese and is thus an icon of prosperity and great happiness. The technique to craft the Masu Box with fine precision has been passed down by ancient craftsmen and is still practised by Japanese artisans.
